About Standing Voice

Standing Voice is an international human rights organisation working to ensure people with albinism can live with dignity and equality.

Rooted in Africa, our work empowers one of the world’s most marginalised communities to access life-saving healthcare, education, economic opportunity, and protection from discrimination and violence. Operating from offices in the UK, Tanzania, and Malawi, we deliver integrated programmes in dermatology, vision care, livelihoods, psychosocial support, and advocacy.

We believe storytelling is a tool for justice. We use it to challenge stigma, raise awareness, and promote social inclusion. Our communications help build empathy, shift public perception, and inspire action, locally, nationally, and globally.

The Role

You will design and deliver a bold communications strategy that raises Standing Voice’s global profile, champions the rights of people with albinism, and brings our impact to life for donors, partners, media, and the public. From social media, newsletters, and press engagement to film production, advocacy campaigns, and fundraising support, you will own and shape the voice and visibility of our mission.

This position is ideal for a creative, proactive, and values-driven communicator with experience in rights-based communications or nonprofit storytelling. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment, bring fresh ideas to a growing organisation, and collaborate with grassroots leaders, to amplify voices too often unheard.

  • Manage SV’s photo and video archive, ensuring ethical sourcing, storage, and crediting.
sourced, stored and credited to photographers and filmmakers we collaborate with.

  • Commission, edit and produce powerful multimedia content, including short films, photo stories, digital campaigns, that centre the voices and experiences of people with albinism.

  • Support donor reports, proposals, and case studies with strong narrative and visual content.

  • Produce quarterly newsletters and other supporter communications

4. Press & Media Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets in Africa and internationally.

  • Secure media coverage through press releases, op-eds, interviews, and features.

  • Amplify SV’s presence at global forums (e.g. UN Human Rights Council, GlobalSkin and World Congress of Dermatology) through media outreach and presentations.

  • Partner with local advocacy groups to co-create campaigns in Tanzania and Malawi.

6. Ethics, Consent & Inclusion

  • Uphold dignity, agency, and rights in all communications.

  • Lead on ethical storytelling, informed consent, and inclusive practices, especially with children or survivors of violence.

  • Champion decolonised communication approaches that prioritise local voices and perspectives.

About Standing Voice (SV)

Standing Voice (SV) an international NGO that has been promoting the rights, well-being and inclusion of persons with albinism (PWA) in Africa for nearly 20 years. With registered offices and teams in the UK, Tanzania, and Malawi, SV delivers holistic support across dermatology, eyecare, education, psychosocial support, and livelihoods.

We hold Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council and have held multi-year funding partnerships with donors such as the European Union, United Nations, Wellcome Trust, and World Bank, alongside trusts, foundations, philanthropists, and individual givers.

Albinism is a genetically inherited condition causing melanin deficiency, which leads to visual impairment, extreme vulnerability to skin cancer, and a life expectancy of under 40 years for many PWA in Africa. PWA also face violent persecution and social exclusion, with hundreds of human rights violations documented across Africa since 2006. SV exists to dismantle these barriers, bringing life-saving healthcare, education, security, and opportunity to thousands of people otherwise left behind.

The Role

Standing Voice is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and results-driven Fundraising Manager to join our UK team. This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious fundraiser to take ownership of a critical portfolio within a respected and growing human rights charity.

The Fundraising Manager will lead the advancement and implementation of SV’s Fundraising Strategy, working closely with the Executive Director, UK colleagues, and in-country teams in Tanzania and Malawi. The role will focus on diversifying and scaling up income streams, writing compelling grant proposals, and building long-term donor relationships that will secure and grow sustainable funding for our life-changing programmes.

This role is ideal for a candidate with proven success in securing multi-year income across trusts and foundations, institutional donors, corporate partnerships, philanthropy, and individual giving, and who thrives on turning creative ideas into tangible impact for those furthest behind.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop SV’s Fundraising Strategy, ensuring ambitious growth targets are met.

  • Research, identify, and secure restricted and unrestricted funding opportunities to diversify and strengthen SV’s income base.

  • Cultivate and manage relationships with trusts, foundations, institutional donors, corporate partners, and philanthropists, representing SV with professionalism and passion.

  • Lead the development of proposals, pitches, and presentations, working collaboratively with programmes and finance teams in the UK, Tanzania, and Malawi to generate innovative, fundable projects.

  • Host meetings and events with philanthropists, funders, and stakeholders to showcase SV’s work and secure major gifts.

  • Draft and coordinate high-quality funder reports, ensuring compliance with grant agreements and donor expectations.

  • Manage SV’s grant research and donor database, tracking opportunities and reporting progress to the Executive Director and Board of Trustees.

  • Oversee fundraising campaigns such as the Big Give Christmas Challenge and other strategic appeals.

  • Provide clear leadership and delegation within a growing fundraising team, including the recruitment and supervision of staff or volunteers as budgets allow.

  • Monitor and analyse fundraising trends, providing insights and recommendations to drive continuous improvement.

  • Ensure adherence to the Code of Fundraising Practice, GDPR, and all SV internal policies.

Person specification

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • At least 5 years’ experience working in Fundraising within the charity or human rights sector.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive, high-impact proposals, pitches, and presentations for diverse audiences.

  • Strong donor stewardship and relationship management experience, demonstrating a collaborative, respectful, and professional approach.

  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and deliver to tight deadlines.

  • Strategic and analytical thinker who is able to interpret data, assess trends, and translate insights into fundraising strategies.

  • Analytical and strategic thinker, with experience using data and insights to inform decision-making and fundraising strategies.

  • Demonstrated leadership and initiative, with the ability to work independently while effectively engaging colleagues across teams and locations.
